Brazilian carnival or BATUCADA drumming was used for the opening of the 2016 olympics and is a major part of the annual Rio carnival (the largest carnival in the world).
In just one day we can creating a memorable event and integrate as part of your music provision providing medium term plans, learning progression maps and knowledge organisers.
Children will play a variety of instruments, learn about a different culture, play as part of an ensemble and perform a piece. We play for all of the session and each child has their own instrument all whilst learning about the culture of Brazil.
We have a vast library of material so we can deliver this through KS 1 – 4 changing the content to suit.
You can easily consolidate knowledge and extend the learning with our, Videos, retrieval grids, samba class display and samba quiz
This session also has great links to Black History Month.
“it was amazing…the impact on the children will be noticeable moving forward”
David Jackson Mayo - Music Teacher - Thorpedene Primary
Use the material below before or after the session to expand and consolidate learning.
Print out the samba quiz for the children and watch the video together to be able to answer the questions.
Use the document below to create a Samba instrument display and help children to learn the names of the different instruments. For younger children they can colour the instruments and for older ones then can name the instruments ( taking care with neat writing and spelling) and then colour them.
